Effect of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology on sustainable development

In spite of notable advancements in recent years, the construction sector remains under scrutiny due to its substantial energy usage and detrimental impact on the environment, as the principles of sustainable development are inadequately applied in building practices, resulting in considerable annual energy waste. The construction industry is often characterized by its lack of sustainability and fragmentation; however, it is essential to examine sustainable construction through the lens of digital innovation and integration. While extensive investigations have been conducted on the contributions of building information modeling (BIM) to sustainable construction, the exploration of the BIM process in sustainability domains is still relatively underrepresented. This article aims to explore the influence and significance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in promoting the adoption of sustainable development practices within the construction sector.
