Conflict management in a project-oriented organization with a project management competency approach

Conflict is an inevitable part of project environments, especially in complex industries such as the construction industry. Effective conflict management is critical to project success. This article examines conflict management from a competency perspective. By reviewing the human origins of conflict, its types, and conflict management styles, the concept of competency and its components of knowledge, skills, and attitudes are explained. Then, conflict management competency and its components are analyzed based on various project management standards, and key indicators of this competency are presented at different stages of conflict management (anticipation, analysis, resolution, and learning). The purpose of this article is to present a competency-based conceptual framework for conflict management in project-based environments.
