The Human Factor in Translation: Psychological Predictors of Translation Quality

Translation is inherently a human-centered activity, and the quality of the translated text depends not only on linguistic competence but also on a range of psychological factors associated with the translator. This study aims to identify and examine the key psychological predictors that influence translation quality, with a focus on emotional, cognitive, and affective variables. Drawing on previous research in Translation Studies and psychology, the paper highlights the role of emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, working memory capacity, emotion regulation strategies, motivation, anxiety, and personality traits in shaping translators' performance. The findings suggest that these psychological components exert significant influence on decision-making processes, problem-solving strategies, and consistency in translation output. Understanding the human factor in translation can contribute to more effective translator training programs by emphasizing both linguistic and psychological skill development. The study also offers implications for curriculum design and proposes directions for future research in the field of translator psychology.
