A brief review of the review studies for better balance in metaheuristic algorithms

The balance between exploration and exploitation is one of the fundamental and determining concepts in the performance and stability of metaheuristic algorithms. In recent years, numerous studies have examined how this balance is managed within various families of metaheuristic algorithms, including evolutionary, swarm-based, and nature-inspired algorithms. This review synthesizes and analyzes the findings of survey papers published between ۲۰۱۳ and ۲۰۲۵ that focused on the topic of exploration-exploitation balance. The analysis results indicate that maintaining population diversity, employing hybridization approaches, and utilizing adaptive mechanisms are among the most effective strategies for sustaining this balance.
