Induction Motor Load Side Fault Diagnosis: A Comparison of Diagnostic Signals and Features

Induction motors have wide variety of application in industry. They suffer from different kinds of faults including electrical and mechanical faults. Mechanical faults can be divided to motor side and load side. Most studies concentrate on Motor side faults. Load side faults such as impeller or load bearing receive less attention but relevant for industrial applications. The aim of this paper is to find an inexpensive, appropriate diagnostic signals that can successfully replace the vibration signal. Also, the effect of different features extracted from these signals is investigated. Results show reactive power offers cost-effective alternative for mechanical sensors with comparative diagnostic accuracy.
