Background: The use of antibiotics in poultry production has been a common practice to prevent infections, promote growth, and improve feed efficiency. However, concerns have been raised about the potential effects of antibiotics on the histological and anatomical structures of muscle tissues in industrial broilers. This study investigates the impact of antibiotic administration on the muscle tissue histology and anatomy in industrial broilers, providing insights into any potential alterations in muscle development, structure, and health under prolonged antibiotic consumption. Materials and Methods: A total of ۶۰ industrial broilers were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group received a standard antibiotic regimen (consisting of Tylosin and Enrofloxacin) in their feed, while the control group was maintained under normal conditions without antibiotics. The study period lasted ۸ weeks, and muscle tissue samples from the breast and thigh muscles were collected at the end of the experimental period. Histological examination was conducted using Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining to evaluate muscle fiber morphology, cellular arrangement, and tissue integrity. Additionally, Masson's Trichrome staining was used to assess collagen deposition, and electron microscopy was employed for detailed ultrastructural analysis. Results: The results revealed significant histological changes in the muscle tissues of antibiotic-treated broilers. In the experimental group, there was an increased presence of fibrosis, particularly in the interstitial spaces between muscle fibers, indicating abnormal collagen deposition. Muscle fibers were found to be irregular in shape and size, with some exhibiting signs of atrophy and degeneration. In contrast, the control group showed normal muscle architecture with well-organized fibers and minimal collagen accumulation. Electron microscopy revealed mitochondrial alterations and disrupted sarcomere structures in the antibiotic-treated group. These changes were particularly pronounced in the thigh muscles, suggesting that prolonged antibiotic exposure might have more severe effects on specific muscle groups. Conclusion: Antibiotic consumption in industrial broilers resulted in significant histological and anatomical changes in muscle tissues, including fibrosis, muscle fiber atrophy, and ultrastructural damage. These alterations may adversely affect meat quality, potentially influencing the nutritional value and texture of poultry products. The findings underline the need for careful management of antibiotic use in poultry farming to mitigate negative effects on muscle development and overall poultry health.
