چکیده مقاله:
Reducing fuel consumption, environmental emissions, and improving passenger health are among the major challenges facing the automotive industry. One effective approach to address these challenges is weight reduction through the optimization of materials and manufacturing technologies used in vehicle interior components. This study presents a feasibility assessment of using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) additive manufacturing for automotive interior components as a potential alternative to conventional plastic parts. In particular, the potential of honeycomb cellular structures is discussed due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and reduced material usage. A review of previous studies indicates that the application of FDM combined with optimized internal structures can contribute to vehicle lightweighting, lower fuel consumption, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and decreased release of volatile organic compounds inside the vehicle cabin. The findings of this feasibility study highlight the promising potential of FDM additive manufacturing as a sustainable and flexible manufacturing approach for future automotive interior applications.
