Fungal spoilage and lipid oxidation are among the most important factors that reduce the shelf life of nuts, and the simultaneous control of these two processes without compromising the nutritional quality of the product remains a technological challenge in the food industry. In this study, a framework is proposed for designing a low dose nuclear irradiation system with a selective energy spectrum aimed at the inactivation of fungal spores and the engineering of oxidative stability in dried nut products. In this approach, the effects of controlled ionizing fields on the biological structure of spores are analyzed through the convergence of quantum–molecular modeling and fungal physiological models in order to elucidate the mechanisms of structural disruption, the generation of reactive oxygen species, and the impairment of cellular repair systems. In parallel, the formation of stable radiation induced nanostructures is investigated as a platform for enhancing the performance of photo reactive quasi smart packaging. Such a system is capable of reducing the rate of lipid oxidation by regulating photocatalytic reactions and inhibiting radical pathways. Conceptual results indicate that combining selective spectral low dose irradiation with the engineering of stable nanostructures and active packaging can simultaneously reduce fungal load, limit aflatoxin production, and enhance oxidative stability. This framework proposes an interdisciplinary pathway for the development of safe food irradiation technologies and the design of next generation responsive packaging systems aimed at improving the shelf life and quality of nut products.
