Sustainable development is one of the main issues in all countries, especially in developing countries. Striking a balance between development and environmental protection is an integral part of development programs. In other words, environmental protection is considered a guarantee of sustainable development. Development programs also include the development of cities and urban landscapes, and the lack of sustainability in the development of cities and urban landscapes directly jeopardizes sustainable development. One of the important parameters in the discussion of urban landscape is the green space of cities. The increasing growth of urbanization has led to the expansion of apartment living, which has led to the creation of collective green spaces and man-made environments. Urban green spaces, in addition to being a platform for the formation of social relations, have a positive effect on the environment and the air around them. Maintaining green spaces and ensuring their sustainability, especially in arid and semi-arid environments, is accompanied by various challenges, the solutions of which will be mentioned in this article. If the provision of the required green space per capita for citizens is accompanied by neglect of its maintenance, it will lead to environmental instability and unsustainable development. This article attempts to examine the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of urban green spaces and methods for increasing sustainability in green spaces.
