Sustainable architecture has been increasingly recognized as a fundamental approach to reducing the environmental impacts of buildings and improving the efficiency of resource consumption in urban environments. In recent years, the concept of smart buildings has emerged as a complementary strategy that utilizes advanced technologies such as Building Management Systems (BMS), the Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent sensors to enhance building performance. Through the integration of sustainable design principles with smart technologies, significant improvements in energy efficiency, environmental performance, and indoor environmental quality can be achieved. In this study, the relationship between sustainable architecture and smart building technologies is examined, with particular emphasis placed on their role in optimizing energy consumption and enhancing environmental sustainability in urban buildings. Various technological solutions and design strategies that facilitate the integration of intelligent systems within sustainable architectural frameworks are discussed. Furthermore, the potential benefits of adopting smart technologies during the design, construction, and operational phases of buildings are analyzed. The findings indicate that the implementation of smart technologies alongside sustainable architectural strategies can substantially reduce energy consumption, improve building performance, and contribute to the creation of more resilient and environmentally responsible urban environments. Consequently, the integration of sustainable architecture and smart building technologies is considered an essential pathway toward achieving long term urban sustainability.
