چکیده مقاله:

It is highly likely that emotionally intelligent individuals could manage their negative feelings about learning a foreign language. In this study the researchers hypothesized that if language learners develop their emotional intelligence (EI), this will increase their levels of self-efficacy and vice versa. The participants were ۱۰۰ English language learners in an Iranian English language institute who were asked to provide emotional intelligence and self-efficacy ratings by answering the questionnaires. The instruments for data collection were "Self-Efficacy for Learning Form (SELF-A)" (Zimmerman & Kitsantas, ۲۰۰۷) and "Bar-On EI test" (Bar-On, ۱۹۹۷). Before administrating these two tests, the Nelson Proficiency Test (Fowler & Coe, ۱۹۷۶) was implemented to homogenize the participants. Results showed a statistically significant relationship between the students' emotional intelligence and their self-efficacy. Also, three sub-scales of emotional intelligence (stress-tolerance, problem-solving and assertiveness) were found to be good predictors of language learners' self-efficacy for their highly significant correlation with this variable. The conclusions and implications of the research were discussed with reference to the earlier findings.
