The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching Practices

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into language education has sparked significant debate among educators and researchers, particularly in the field of applied linguistics. This paper explores the impact of AI on English language teaching (ELT) and examines the evolving role of teachers in an AI-driven educational landscape. Drawing on recent studies by Chen and Li (۲۰۲۲) and Warschauer et al. (۲۰۲۰), the paper highlights how AI technologies, such as adaptive learning systems and natural language processing, are reshaping pedagogical approaches. While AI offers innovative tools for personalized learning and real-time feedback, it also raises concerns about the diminishing role of human teachers. The paper argues that rather than replacing educators, AI should be viewed as a supportive tool that enhances teaching effectiveness. By analyzing current trends and challenges, this study emphasizes the need for teacher training in AI literacy and the development of collaborative teaching strategies. Ultimately, the paper advocates for a balanced approach that leverages AI while preserving the irreplaceable human elements of language education.
