Assessment of Potential Offshore Wind Speed in Indonesia Using Weibull, Nakagami, and Rayleigh Distributions

Indonesia's abundant renewable energy is wind, with a potential of ۱۵۵ GW, although only ۰.۱۵ GW is currently utilized. This study aims to determine the distribution of wind speed data and the cumulative wind energy production at several potential offshore locations in Indonesia, such as Jeneponto, Banda Aceh, and Kaliantan Lombok. The research methodology utilizes the Weibull, Nakagami, and Rayleigh distributions to assess wind potential by estimating the parameters and calculating the R۲ and RMSE tests. The Weibull distribution has the calculation results closest to the observation results, with an R۲ of ۰.۹۹۷ and an RMSE of ۰.۰۱۱۷ at Jeneponto. The Rayleigh distribution in Banda Aceh shows the calculation results closest to the observation results, with an R۲ of ۰.۹۹۳ and an RMSE of ۰.۰۳۳۸. Meanwhile, in Kaliantan Lombok, the Weibull distribution is superior in calculating the R۲ of ۰.۹۹۶, while the Rayleigh distribution is superior in the RMSE of ۰.۰۲۶۸. The cumulative wind energy production is calculated to show which distribution methods closest to the observation data. The results of error deviation from the cumulative energy production indicate that the Weibull distribution is the best option to assess the offshore wind project location in Indonesia, with the error between ۰.۰۲۸ and ۰.۰۸۷ compared to Nakagami and Rayleigh distribution methods.
