چکیده مقاله:
This study aims to reexamine the position of Menes in ancient Egyptian history by moving beyond classical narratives and conventional identifications. It proposes that Menes was not a historical figure from the First Dynasty, but rather the forgotten founder of Egypt’s earliest unification during the prehistorical era. The significance of this inquiry lies in the absence of direct archaeological evidence for Menes, despite his prominent presence in Egypt’s cultural memory—a gap that has long challenged historiography. Employing an interdisciplinary approach, the research analyzes three core dimensions: comparative archaeological sources, linguistic examination of the term “Menes” in hieroglyphic texts, and critical evaluation of classical traditions. Findings suggest that Menes was a real prehistorical figure who played a foundational role in Egypt’s initial unification prior to the emergence of writing. This reinterpretation highlights the importance of cultural memory and calls for renewed historiographical methods.
