چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Air traffic control (ATC) is a dynamic cognitively-demanding job with related complexity and safety-critical operations. It requires performance management of expected and unexpected tasks to ensure safe and efficient air traffic control. In addition to optimal cognitive performance, ATC requires capabilities in sensory-perceptual, psychomotor, physical and social/interpersonal domains. Methods: The F-JAS method comprised ۵۲ cognitive, sensory-perceptual, psychomotor, physical abilities and ۲۱ social/interpersonal domain questions. Ten SMEs participated in the study with over ۱۰ years of professional experience. They separately determined the importance of each ۷۳ domain questions in relation with optimum performance in ATC on a ۱ to ۷-point vertical rating scales based on the F-JAS method. Finally, the average importance scale score for each ability was determined and ranked up. Results: The aim of this study was to determine the most important requisites for optimum performance in ATC based on subject matter experts (SMEs) using the Fleishman-Job Analyses Survey (F-JAS) method. Conclusion Spatial visualization (۶.۴۳±۰.۵۷), selective attention (۶.۳۴±۰.۷۱) in terms of cognitive abilities; reaction time (۵.۸۱±۰.۸۱) and reaction orientation (۵.۴۸±۱.۲) in psychomotor abilities; and speech recognition (۶.۲۷±۰.۸۱) hearing attention (۶.۱۹±۰.۵۵) in sensory-perceptual were the most important domains whereas the physical ability was found to be of least importance. Furthermore, self-control, persistence of effort and resilience were the most important social/interpersonal abilities for optimum performance in the ATC job. The key determining herewith identified abilities can be used to develop recruitment and personal selection protocols to achieve optimal performance in ATC.
