چکیده مقاله:
Steve Toltz’s A Fraction of the Whole has a dynamic non-linear narration, which is based on the narration of the two members of Dean’s family, the father and the son. The most accentuated element of this novel is the familial relationships toward each other. Therefore; this novel could be a good case study for Lacanian Psychoanalysis, in which it is tried to study the construction of the characters’ Orders. Additionally, the role of The Father and The Mother on the identity of the following characters would be studied in the light of Lacan’s terminology. This is due to each character lacks an agent in their infancy. The vital influence of the Oedipal stage in each subject may lead to a clinical disorder, which for Martin is Psychosis and for Jasper is Neurosis. Furthermore; each of these clinical disorders follows a mechanism which for Psychosis is Foreclosure and for Neurosis is repression; the specific causes and influences on each character would be studied in two different chapters.
