Background: Since the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in ۱۹۵۶, interest in its applications has gradually increased; however, the use of AI in medical education has only garnered attention in the past two decades. As surgical techniques have become more complex, the demand for training and educating surgical technologists has significantly risen. AI is progressively transforming the methods of surgical training and practice, particularly for surgical technologists, due to its high potential to enhance the learning experience. Traditional surgical education methods primarily focus on in-person learning and repetition; however, existing limitations have led to a reduction in practice time in the operating room. Consequently, the purpose of this review is to explore the applications of artificial intelligence in the education of surgical technologists. Materials and Methods: In this narrative review, published articles were searched through the databases SID, ISI, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed. The search was conducted using keywords related to artificial intelligence, surgical technology and surgical education within the time frame of ۲۰۱۵ to ۲۰۲۴; Subsequently, similar and duplicate searches were removed. Finally, ۱۲ articles that aligned with the study's objectives were selected and thoroughly reviewed and analyzed. Results: AI can have multiple applications in the education of surgical technologists; these applications can help improve the quality of learning and increase educational efficiency. One of these applications is medical simulations; this technology simulates real surgical environments. These simulations allow students to practice their skills without risk to patients and make decisions under high-pressure conditions. In addition, AI can assist in personalized learning. By analyzing students' performance data, this technology is capable of creating educational programs tailored to their individual needs, helping to enhance learning efficiency and accelerate skill acquisition. Furthermore, AI plays an important role in analyzing educational data. This technology can identify learning patterns and assist instructors in improving teaching methods and adjusting educational content based on students' needs. Additionally, it can identify potential problems in the learning process and provide solutions to address them. Conclusion: The use of AI in the education of surgical technologists represents a fundamental transformation in paramedical training methods. This review has shown that AI can enhance the learning experience by overcoming the limitations of traditional surgical training methods. Given the increasing complexity of surgical techniques and the rising demand for skilled surgical technologists, AI offers innovative solutions that improve educational outcomes.
