Utilizing Modern Approaches to Teaching Language in Instruction of Translation in Iranian Universities

Nowadays, translation courses are taught in many universities in Iran and many instructors still use outdated approaches to teaching them since traditional methods like 'read and translate' are still utilized in universities. Although language teaching has undergone lots of transformations and adopted modern approaches, not much knowledge has been borrowed from this field of study for teaching translation, while a strong correlation has been established between different majors in the era of interdisciplinary studies. These modern approaches to language teaching include Humanistic Approach, Cooperative Learning and Social Constructivism. These approaches have been defined and explained in this research and some approaches to teaching translation have been proposed based on the above-mentioned theories. The researcher intended to help translation instructors add more variation to their translation classes and let their students experience new environments and methods of learning and create more motivation among translation students by utilizing such approaches. This research also indicated that such modern approaches can help learning process turn into a more efficient one since the learner can become more motivated.
