چکیده مقاله:
This study investigates the translation strategies employed for book titles within three major Iranian publishing agencies and examines potential correlations between strategy selection and translator gender. Grounded in theoretical frameworks from functionalist and feminist translation studies, the research analyzes a corpus of translated titles using descriptive and quantitative methods. The findings reveal a predominant use of literal translation across all agencies, aligning with cross-linguistic norms identified in prior literature. However, a significant gender-based divergence emerges: while male translators heavily favor literal translation, female translators in the sample avoid this default approach, showing a marked preference for more adaptive strategies such as providing new titles and transliteration. This strategic disparity is consistent with feminist translation theories that posit gendered differences in translational agency and intervention, particularly in paratextual elements. The study contributes to the increasing number of empirical studies on gender and translation, suggesting that translator identity may influence strategic decisions in culturally significant ways. It also underscores the role of institutional context in shaping translation norms and calls for further research with larger corpora to explore the interplay of gender, genre, and editorial policy in title translation practices.
