چکیده مقاله:

A deeper understanding of disease mechanisms is fundamental to the development of more effective diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients. Traditional research tools, including classical cell lines and animal models, have long been instrumental in uncovering the causes and progression of various diseases. However, these models often fall short in replicating the complexity of human pathophysiology, particularly in the context of neurological disorders. Neurodegeneration, defined as the gradual loss of neuronal structure and function leading to cell death, is a hallmark of several debilitating conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other related disorders. The intricate architecture of neural tissue, combined with its limited accessibility, has historically posed significant challenges to researchers attempting to study the underlying mechanisms of these diseases and to develop effective treatments. Fortunately, recent advancements in cellular modeling, such as the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), three-dimensional organoids, and co-culture systems, alongside cutting-edge imaging technologies, have revolutionized the study of neurodegenerative processes. These innovations allow for more accurate modeling of disease progression and facilitate the identification of potential therapeutic targets. By integrating these approaches, researchers can gain more precise insights into disease mechanisms and accelerate the development of targeted interventions for neurodegenerative conditions. This paper discusses the current methodologies used to measure and analyze these processes, molecular assays, and imaging techniques for functional assessments.
