چکیده مقاله:

Background: Tuberculosis is one of the infectious zoonotic diseases shared between humans and animals. It is among the most important diseases affecting ruminants, particularly cattle and goats, worldwide, including in Iran. The tuberculosis bacillus infects not only humans and ruminants but also domestic animals and wildlife, making the control and eradication of the disease challenging. Therefore, this retrospective study was conducted to determine the prevalence of tuberculosis in slaughtered livestock in Khorramabad city, Lorestan province. Methods: The study investigated the prevalence of Mycobacterium species in cattle, sheep, and goats over a ten-year period (۲۰۱۲–۲۰۲۱). Data were analyzed annually using SPSS software to compare disease prevalence among different species of slaughtered livestock. Results: The results indicated that cattle had the highest tuberculosis prevalence, with a decade-long incidence rate of ۰.۱۸ ± ۰.۰۶%, although the disease showed a decreasing trend overall. However, in some years (۲۰۱۷ and ۲۰۲۰), higher prevalence rates were observed. In contrast, the incidence in goats and sheep remained relatively constant. Although the overall prevalence of tuberculosis in ruminants has declined in recent years, areas with higher prevalence can still transmit infections to other regions, posing a potential threat of future outbreaks. Conclusion: Although the overall prevalence of tuberculosis in ruminants has declined in recent years, areas with higher prevalence can still transmit infections to other regions, posing a potential threat of future outbreaks. Therefore, effective management strategies aimed at controlling and eradicating tuberculosis in cattle, as the main source of infection, should remain a top priority for relevant organizations such as the Veterinary Organization.
