Background: Protozoan parasites are among the most significant pathogenic agents in aquatic animals. Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ich) can adversely affect the health of rainbow trout and may even lead to mortality in some cases. The main objective of this study was to investigate the presence of Ichthyophthirius multifiliis in farmed rainbow trout in Zanjan Province. Methods: This study was conducted on ۱۰۷ rainbow trout farming pools in Zanjan Province during ۲۰۲۴. Sampling was performed in both spring and autumn seasons, with ۱۰ live fish collected from each pool. The samples were transferred to the parasitology laboratory and examined for the presence of Ichthyophthirius multifiliis. Results: Out of the total collected samples during both seasons, the parasite was detected in ۳۳ farms in spring and ۳۶ farms in autumn. In other words, the prevalence rate of Ichthyophthirius multifiliis during the study period in Zanjan Province was ۳۲.۲۴%. Conclusion: The results confirm Ich as a persistent threat requiring year-round monitoring. These findings highlight the need for improved control measures in regional aquaculture systems.
