The Necessity of Critical Discourse Analysis within Cognitive, Contextual, and Critical Perspectives of Language and Gender

Over the last ۵۰ years, many scholars have conducted much research on language and gender issues. Some studies, however, stress too much on gender-specific factors, disregard context, variation, intra-group differences and overlaps between groups, emphasize differences and ignore similarities. The present paper illustrates the complex relationship between language and gender, which needs to be examined from several perspectives at the discourse level. In most cases, gender-specific characteristics are presented on the discourse level. Studies of language and gender cannot separate gender variables from other social or contextual factors. Language and gender studies cannot separate gender variables from other social or contextual aspects. Discourse and context provide valuable perspectives on language and gender, and corpora constitute important research tools.
