چکیده مقاله:

Stroke has continued to be a leading cause of disability worldwide, and the post-stroke rehabilitation needs to be coordinated and patient-centered. Motor impairment, dysphagia, cognitive changes, and loss of self-care capabilities are the reasons why oral health is remarkably worse in the post-stroke period. Oral health care is related to a high risk of aspiration pneumonia, which is the major cause of post-stroke mortality. There is also the complexity of medication management since stroke survivors are usually subject to polypharmacy, adverse drug effects, and subadherence. This review discusses the potential of combining the use of pharmaceutical care and oral health interventions to improve the recovery and decrease complications after stroke.
