Finite element methods have proven to be extraordinarily helpful when it comes to designing parts using CAD softwares and evaluating their performance and behavior. Almost all products nowadays are designed and analyzed in computers before being manufactured. This drastically increases control over all parameters of design and analysis of a product and allows for trustable prediction of model behavior and performance. Theoretical calculations on the other hand, are now used to only verify the computational results; as FEA analyses can return any value, even if invalid. This is because even the wrong parameters and setup of an FEA study can return a numerical value. Therefore use of manually calculated values to confirm computational values is crucial. This study makes use of the same technique to confirm the bending stress distribution of straight bevel gears of a differential. The results confirmed that using the right coefficients for overload and dynamic factors in manual calculations, would lead to equal results to the computationally calculated values. An average of ۵% error rate was achieved between the two methods.
