چکیده مقاله:

The design of public spaces not only shapes the environmental quality of a city but also plays a crucial role in fostering collective memory and Place Attachment. However, the extent to which environmental and ecological design contribute to Emotional Sustainability remains underexplored. This study conducts a comparative analysis of Duisburg Nord Park (Germany) and the High Line (New York) to examine how these two design approaches influence Emotional Sustainability and Place Attachment. The findings reveal that the High Line successfully cultivates a new urban identity by intertwining history, culture, and nature, thereby strengthening Place Attachment and deepening emotional bonds with the space. In contrast, Duisburg Nord reconstructs Emotional Sustainability by integrating natural processes with the adaptive reuse of industrial heritage, fostering Place Attachment through the coexistence of human and ecological systems. The study suggests that environmental design enhances Place Attachment primarily through aesthetics, social engagement, ecological integration, and economic activation, whereas ecological design reinforces Place Attachment through historical continuity, immersive interactions with nature, and dynamic ecological processes. Furthermore, the results underscore the need for future urban parks to blend both approaches to maximize their emotional and ecological impact, as their boundaries often overlap. This study contributes to urban design literature by elucidating the role of Emotional Sustainability in post-industrial landscapes and proposing a comparative framework for integrating ecological and environmental design in urban regeneration.
