چکیده مقاله:

In recent decades, the concept of smart cities has led urban planners to place significant emphasis on advanced technologies in order to improve efficiency, service delivery, and resource management. While this approach aims to enhance quality of life across environmental, social, and economic dimensions, it often neglects essential human, social, and psychological factors. One of the most important yet frequently overlooked elements is place attachment—a fundamental aspect that contributes to citizens’ well-being, strengthens social participation, and supports social sustainability. When urban spaces are designed with coherent yet diverse elements, they create a compelling spatial narrative that enhances environmental understanding and reinforces place attachment. Although space may appear static, it acquires meaning, soul, and identity through active human interaction. When individuals identify with a place, they assign unique meanings and identities to it, resulting in environments that feel vibrant, meaningful, and emotionally resonant. Caspian Port, the case study examined in this paper, is no exception. This study explores how the presence of urban infrastructure contributes to place attachment and supports the development of a smart and socially sustainable urban environment.
