چکیده مقاله:
Studying the dynamics of submerged and partially submerged plant stems in shallow waters under wave action is crucial due to their impact on environmental processes and the stability of coastal ecosystems. Stems play a vital role in ecosystem management by contributing to wave energy dissipation. Structural damping of stems is one of the parameters influencing their dynamics, yet it has not been incorporated into numerical models describing stem dynamics. In this study, a numerical model was developed to simulate the small deformation motion of stems under wave action, incorporating stem-fluid interaction forces, internal stem forces, and structural damping. The model was solved using the finite difference method in MATLAB. For model validation, experiments were conducted to examine stem dynamics under wave action. A comparison between the numerical and experimental models demonstrated that the proposed model accurately predicts the dynamic behavior of stems. Incorporating damping into the model reduced the error in the oscillation range of single stems under wave action by an average of ۲%. Specifically, for the P۲۰, P۲۵, and N۲۵ stems, the range error decreased from ۳.۳%, ۴.۰%, and ۹.۵% to ۱.۶%, ۲.۰%, and ۷.۴%, respectively.
