چکیده مقاله:
Cylindrical ground storage tanks for fluids, such as firewater tanks, are widely used for storing and preserving water, sewage, and chemical substances. Given its critical role in various industries, these tanks need to withstand the dynamic forces of an earthquake. This study numerically investigates the seismic behavior of the foundation of a cylindrical storage tank. Two different types of foundations, ring and pile, were modeled and analyzed. The ۱۹۹۵ Kobe earthquake was applied as the input motion. The studied tank was modeled using ۳D finite element PLAXIS software. The results indicate that, under seismic loading conditions, piles caused a significant reduction in tank settlement. However, in both ring and pile foundation cases, the settlement remains within the permissible threshold specified by API ۶۵۰ design code. The findings of this study are practical for a more effective design of storage tank foundations in seismically active regions, thereby enhancing their stability and resilience under earthquake-induced forces.
