A narrative review of monkeypox (emerging and re-emerging virus): Virology, life cycle, epidemiology, transmission, diagnosis, prevention, and treatments

Monkeypox (MPX), an infectious viral disease, has recently occurred, and the unpredictable prevalence of the virus in non-endemic areas has raised new concerns. In recent years, the emergence of COVID-۱۹ and then monkeypox has been a warning to other emerging viruses. The lack of a vaccine and definitive treatment has forced societies to take this virus seriously. It’s found mostly in areas of Africa, but has been seen in other regions of the world, including the United States. It’s spread mainly through human contact with infected rodents, but can sometimes be spread through skin-to-skin contact with a person who is infected and causes flu-like symptoms such as fever and chills, and a rash that can take weeks to clear. By virtue of the high outbreak rate among humans, the virus has a high potential to create an epidemic infection. Before ۲۰۲۲, although MPX was a rare disease in western and central Africa, nowadays, reports have been expressed in more than ۷۶ countries. This review aims to provide an up-to-date overview of monkeypox and describe the structure, epidemiology, transmission, diagnosis, treatment, and infection-control plans.
