The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Enhancing Researchers' Information Literacy: Transformative Applications in Scientific Databases

This paper analyzes the role and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within scientific databases as a transformative tool for directly enhancing the information literacy skills of researchers. In an era of information overload, this study posits that AI is shifting the paradigm from simple information retrieval to an integrated, intelligent research environment that actively develops these core competencies. Adopting an analytical-conceptual approach, this paper examines key AI applications extracted from a comprehensive model that was developed through a systematic meta-synthesis of scientific literature and subsequently validated by a panel of ۱۹ experts. The findings indicate that AI tools enhance information literacy across three primary domains: (۱) Optimizing the Search and Retrieval Process through intelligent search and recommendation systems; (۲) Deepening Content Comprehension and Analysis with tools like automatic summarization; and (۳) Ensuring Scientific Validity and Integrity via features such as plagiarism and fake news detection. Collectively, these components are transforming the researcher's role from a mere 'searcher' to an 'analyst' and 'research strategist'. It is concluded that investing in AI for scientific databases is not merely a technical upgrade but a strategic investment in empowering the next generation of researchers, evolving these platforms from passive repositories into active partners in the research process and thereby elevating the quality and integrity of the entire scientific ecosystem.
