چکیده مقاله:
Obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) share a bidirectional relationship, with obesity exacerbating PCOS symptoms through insulin resistance and chronic inflammation, while PCOS contributes to weight gain via metabolic disturbances. Emerging evidence highlights gut dysbiosis as a key player in PCOS pathogenesis, characterized by reduced microbial diversity and increased intestinal permeability. Probiotics demonstrate therapeutic potential by restoring gut microbiota balance, enhancing intestinal barrier function, and producing anti-inflammatory short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Clinical studies show probiotic supplementation improves hormonal profiles (reducing testosterone), metabolic parameters (enhancing insulin sensitivity), and quality of life in PCOS patients. However, challenges remain, including inconsistent effects on anthropometrics, undefined optimal protocols, and limited adolescent-focused research. Future directions should prioritize personalized probiotic regimens, longitudinal studies in adolescents, and combinatorial approaches with lifestyle interventions. While not a standalone solution, probiotics represent a promising adjunctive therapy for PCOS management, particularly in obese adolescents, by targeting gut-ovary axis dysfunction.
