چکیده مقاله:

This article attempts to survey different aspects of obedience/disobedience in the hierarchical structure of natural life situation through simulation of the mother-child authoritative situation represented in Elfriede Jelinek's novel 'The Piano Teacher' with experimental situation of obedience in Milgram's study explored in the field of social psychology. Furthermore, it uses findings of Milgram's experiment to discuss and interpret the psychological context of the story. Erika's mother's orders to her daughter and Erika's obedience toward her mother in exertion of those orders for her learners, bring about various negative consequences throughout the story.
