چکیده مقاله:

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a pivotal technology in modern civil engineering, particularly for bridge infrastructure. Aimed at assessing the performance of these vital infrastructures and addressing concerns related to potential failures, a wide variety of new methods, such as the use of advanced sensor systems and data analytics are employed to continuously monitor the structural integrity of bridges and provide information on the performance status of the structure. While SHM systems evaluate the condition of structures, and cause to improve the performance and structural reliability, some complain about the high cost of using SHM systems. In this article, an attempt has been made to mention the long-term financial assessment of applying SHM system for bridges and the importance of investing in this system. The outcome of the studies show that although the initial investment can be high, SHM provide long-term economic benefits, including reduced maintenance costs, extended service life, enhanced safety, and prevention of progressive structural failures.
