A binary heterojunction photocatalyst based on LaFeO۳ and g-C۳N۴ was synthesized using a hydrothermal method to improve the visible-light driven degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B dye (RhB). The structure and optical properties of the composite were characterized through (FT-IR) and (DRS) analysis. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated under visible light using a RhB concentration of ۱۵ mg/L and a catalyst dosage of ۲۵ mg. The binary composite demonstrated superior photocatalytic activity, achieving ۸۳% degradation of RhB within ۹۰ minutes. Compared to the individual components, the enhanced performance is attributed to the synergistic effect among the two semiconductors, which facilitates better light absorption, effective charge separation, and reduced recombination of electron-hole pairs. The band alignment among g-C۳N۴, and LaFeO۳ supports the possible formation of a Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism, maintaining high redox potentials and generating reactive oxygen species essential for dye degradation. This study highlights the potential of the g-C۳N۴/LaFeO۳ system as an efficient photocatalyst for wastewater treatment applications, particularly under visible light irradiation, offering a simple and environmentally friendly approach to the removal of persistent organic dyes.
