Influence of Alkalinity on the Synthesis of ZSM -۲۳ Zeolite

This study investigates in synthesising ZSM -۲۳ zeolite to achieve a pure phase of this structure. The primary focus was on the effect of the initial gel alkalinity, which was adjusted through varying the NaOH molar ratio. Two gel compositions with different molar ratios were prepared: in the first synthesis a NaOH molar ratio of ۴۵ was applied, while in the second one ۳۷.۵ molar ratio was used. The results indicated that reducing the alkalinity not only increased the crystallization time from ۲۴ to ۹۶ hours but also influenced the morphology and uniformity of the resulting crystals. Structural and physical properties of the synthesized samples were analyzed using X -ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer –Emmett –Teller (BET), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The findings prove the significant impact of alkalinity on both the synthesis rate and the phase purity of ZSM -۲۳, providing a promising pathway for optimizing the production parameters and improving the quality of this valuable zeolite material.
