Investigating the Efficiency of Nano Mesoporous NaX in Removing the Pharmaceutical Ingredient Buspirone from the Aqueous Environment

This research focuses on the efficiency of removing the compound buspirone, which affects the central nervous system, from aqueous environments using amine-functionalized NaX zeolite. Due to its porous structure and ion-exchange properties, NaX zeolite can be used as an adsorbent in the removal process of pollutants and chemical compounds. In this study, the impact of five variables including pH, temperature, contact time, amount of adsorbent and NaCl salt were investigated on the removal of the pharmaceutical compound by using a Box-Behnken design and chemometric approach. To evaluate the compound's adsorption on the surface of nano-mesoporous NaX, UV-Vis and FT-IR spectroscopy was utilized. The removal percentage value was modeled using multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS and Design Expert software. The best model was selected based on the obtained statistics. The results indicated that the mentioned variables significantly affected the removal of the buspirone compound from aqueous environment. Then the grid search algorithm was used for determining the optimal conditions for removing the compound using this adsorbent with the certain intervals for each factor. The obtained optimal condition includes pH = ۳, contact time of ۲۰.۵ minutes, amount of NaCl salt ۰.۰۰۵ g, adsorbent dosage of ۲ mg, and temperatures of ۲۵°C and ۴۵°C.
