چکیده مقاله:
The rising global demand for petroleum products has driven an increase in crude oil prices, prompting extensive research into alternative fuel production methods. One promising approach is the catalytic conversion of methanol into valuable fuels and hydrocarbons, such as dimethyl ether (DME), olefins (ethylene, propylene, and butylene), aromatics, and hydrocarbons via the methanol-to-hydrocarbon (MTH) process. Among these, the MTH process is particularly significant as it enables the direct transformation of methanol into gasoline and other high-value hydrocarbons. Additionally, recent advancements have introduced methanol-to-jet fuel conversion as a viable application. These processes are considered among the most practical and economically feasible methods for deriving value-added products from methanol. Zeolite-based catalysts play a pivotal role in these conversion processes, as their performance directly influences product selectivity, conversion efficiency, and overall process viability. Understanding the mechanistic behavior of zeolites is therefore crucial for optimizing catalytic performance and enhancing the economic feasibility of methanol conversion technologies. The structural and acidic properties of zeolites determine their catalytic activity, influencing reaction pathways and product distribution. As such, ongoing research focuses on tailoring zeolite frameworks and active sites to improve yield and selectivity for desired hydrocarbons. Given the growing importance of sustainable fuel production, methanol conversion processes offer a viable alternative to traditional petroleum refining. Further advancements in zeolite catalyst design and reaction engineering could significantly enhance the efficiency and scalability of these technologies, contributing to a more sustainable energy future.
