Iran faces significant challenges in maximizing production from its shared gas fields, particularly the South Pars gas field, which is the largest independent gas field in the world. Despite its vast reserves, production has not reached its full potential due to a combination of sanctions, lack of strategic planning, and insufficient utilization of gas storage opportunities. This study explores the feasibility of utilizing nearby depleted reservoirs for natural gas storage to optimize production and manage consumption effectively. Through a systematic approach, we identify and evaluate various Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods suitable for Iran's unique geological conditions. Key findings demonstrate that by establishing a comprehensive gas storage system, we can create an efficient and economical framework for supplying natural gas to high-demand consumption centers. The analysis highlights the importance of developing a strategic portfolio for gas injection projects, emphasizing criteria such as reservoir characteristics and operational efficiency. Furthermore, the study outlines technical considerations for transporting gas from South Pars to selected reservoirs, focusing on the necessity of compression units to maintain optimal pressure levels throughout the transportation process. While the development of a sizable Underground Gas Storage (UGS) system presents complexities and requires significant investment, the long-term benefits-including enhanced energy security, improved supply management, and reduced environmental impact-underscore its critical role in Iran's energy strategy. This research ultimately advocates for a proactive approach to harnessing gas storage solutions, thereby positioning Iran to enhance its energy landscape and secure its position as a key player in the global gas market.
