This quantitative study examines the relationship between traditional and modern Iranian cultural values and motivation to learn English as a foreign language among female high school students in Mazandaran, Iran. Using a convenience sampling technique, ۷۰ participants from two public high schools completed a structured questionnaire measuring cultural values and language learning motivation. Correlation analyses revealed a significant positive relationship between traditional cultural values and motivation, a significant negative correlation between traditional and modern values, and no significant association between modern cultural values and motivation. These findings underscore the influential role of traditional cultural orientations in shaping learners’ motivation within the Iranian context, while highlighting the complex and evolving impact of modern values. The study contributes to the understanding of cultural factors in second language acquisition and offers implications for culturally responsive EFL teaching practices in Iran.
