چکیده مقاله:

Speed bumps are a common traffic calming measure implemented globally to reduce vehicle speeds and enhance pedestrian safety. However, the lack of standardized design and implementation often leads to inconsistencies in their effectiveness, driver discomfort, and potential vehicle damage. This paper examines the arguments for and against the standardization of speed bump dimensions (height, length, width, and profile), material composition, and placement guidelines. It explores the potential benefits of standardization, including improved predictability for drivers, enhanced safety for vulnerable road users, reduced maintenance costs, and more consistent speed reduction. The paper also discusses the challenges associated with achieving standardization, such as varying road conditions, traffic volumes, vehicle types, and local regulations. Finally, it proposes key areas for future research and the development of comprehensive guidelines to facilitate the effective and consistent application of speed bumps as a vital traffic calming tool.
