چکیده مقاله:

Although growth mindsets are crucial for second/foreign language writing, there has been limited insight into how they affect motivation in this context. To bridge this research gap, the present study investigates the relationship between growth mindsets, Ideal L۲ writing self, and ought-to L۲ writing self from a gender difference perspective. Questionnaire scales were adopted to measure L۲ writing selves. Data was collected from ۶۰ Iranian English-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) students of Yazd University. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Statistical results revealed that female students are more motivated than male students in creating ideal L۲ self-image, whereas male students have stronger ought-to L۲ writing selves. The results showed that growth mindsets positively predicted ideal and ought-to L۲ writing selves. This study suggests that teachers need to help students create and maintain their ideal L۲ self and facilitate their L۲ learning motivation by providing more adequate vision enhancement interventions. Finally, future research avenues are suggested based on the findings of this study.
