Silent Way and Toys: An Effort to Improve Willingness to Communicate in Iranian Pre-Intermediate EFL Learners

This study investigated the effect of integrating the Silent Way approach with interactive toys on the willingness to communicate (WTC) among Iranian pre-intermediate EFL learners. Forty participants were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups, each comprising ۲۰ learners. The experimental group received intervention incorporating interactive toys within the Silent Way framework, while the control group underwent traditional instruction. Pre- and post-intervention WTC levels were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in WTC in the experimental group, indicating that the combined use of interactive toys and the Silent Way method effectively enhances learners' communicative willingness. These results have important pedagogical implications for EFL instructors aiming to foster communication motivation through innovative teaching strategies.
