A review of Stem Cells and Fertility: A Novel Solution for Infertile Couples

Introduction: Infertility is a growing global problem that Conventional treatments, including hormonal therapies and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) may be ineffective in cases of gamete deficiency. Stem cells, particularly mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), offer new hope due to their ability to regulate immunity and regenerate reproductive tissues. Methods: In this narrative review, an extensive search was conducted in the PubMed database and Google Scholar search engine using English keywords including Stem cell, Stem cell therapy, Infertility. ۳۲ articles were found. After removing duplicates, outdated studies, and irrelevant content, ۵ articles published between ۲۰۲۰ and ۲۰۲۵ were selected for analysis and review. Result: MSCs have a key function in the treatment of infertility conditions. These cells help restore damaged tissues such as ovaries, endometrium, and fallopian tubes for improving reproductive function. MSCs increase tissue regeneration, decrease inflammation and fibrosis, and improve proliferation of cells through paracrine factors like VEGF. The use of MSCs in treating endometriosis and premature ovarian failure shows promising results. Conclusion: MSCs improve tissue regeneration and improve fertility, but there are challenges like limited clinical data and safety. Additional studies should focus on optimizing and validating MSC therapies for infertility. Keywords: infertility, stem cell, stem cell therapy
