چکیده مقاله:

Aging is a very sensitive period of human life, and it is essential to pay attention to the needs and issues of this stage of life. Aging is usually accompanied by high-risk and long-term diseases that affect quality of life. The incidence of chronic neurological diseases such as dementia, cognitive disorders, and other diseases is increasing in the elderly population. Decreased cognitive abilities are associated with impairments in the daily functions of elderly people. The simplest and least expensive methods to maintain cognitive functions in the elderly are physical activities. In this study, we reviewed articles that focused on the relationship between physical activity and cognitive function in the elderly. There is evidence that regular physical activity in the elderly is associated with improved cognitive functions. Various studies have shown that with an exercise program, cognitive deficits caused by aging can be minimized, and this improvement can last for several months after the program. Our conclusion in this review study is that regular physical activity, by affecting all biological and psychosocial aspects, provides criteria for successful aging.
