چکیده مقاله:
This study aims to elucidate the pediatric oncology nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards research engagement in Egypt. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving ۳۰۰ pediatric oncology nurses. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that assessed nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and the practice of research engagement. About ۱۰% of the participants were under ۲۵ years old. The ratio of bachelor's degree holders to postgraduate studies holders is about ۳:۱. ۴۵% of the nurses have at least ۵ years’ experience. The majority of the nurses (۶۶%) were females. The median knowledge score is ۸ points (out of ۱۰). The attitude towards research is highly positive. ۸۳% of respondents are interested in research engagement. Only ۲۰% of respondents believe that research has insufficient influence on government and policies. ۶۶% of participants have conducted research either fully or partially. Participants have reported that journal websites and print journals are the primary sources of research articles. Participants who have never participated in research before have, on average, a knowledge score that is ۰.۴۹ (۹۵% confidence interval [CI]: -۰.۸۵ to -۰.۱۲; P=۰.۰۰۹) points lower than those who have previously participated in research, holding all other variables constant. In addition, participants with ۲ to ۵ years of experience score, on average, ۰.۵۶ points (۹۵% CI: ۰.۱ to ۱.۰; P=۰.۰۱۸) higher in the knowledge score compared to those with ≤ ۲ years of experience, holding all other variables constant. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions such as ongoing education, mentorship programs, and organizational policies to enhance research participation among pediatric oncology nurses. Promoting research engagement is essential to translate evidence into practice and improve the quality of care for children with cancer.
