چکیده مقاله:
The diversity of consumer tastes and the rapid growth of the food industry in recent decades have led to a wide range of domestic and imported products dominating markets such as food items and supplements in various countries. One of the legal rights of consumers in any society is food security and complete informational awareness about the products included in their food basket. Given the importance of ensuring consumer safety and preventing potential harm from uninformed use of defective, harmful, or high-risk food products—especially for vulnerable groups—the use of high-quality raw materials with minimal harm, along with accurate informational labeling, clear instructions, and honest advertising to guide consumers, is of utmost necessity. Today, any failure in transparent information disclosure regarding products that results in harm establishes the civil liability of producers and suppliers, which can be pursued through legal channels. This study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach and employs a library research method to conduct a comparative analysis of the civil liability of food producers and suppliers toward affected consumers due to inadequate information disclosure about product characteristics and side effects, examining both domestic and international legal frameworks. Findings indicate that, internationally, fundamental consumer rights—including safety, choice, compensation, privacy, and particularly the right to information—have gained serious attention in recent decades. These rights correspond to producer obligations, such as providing transparent information, adhering to safety standards, and assuming responsibility for product defects. In Iran, consumer protection laws and e-commerce regulations, along with institutions like the Standards Organization, form the legal framework for these protections. However, given the expansion of production systems, updating and refining existing laws, regulations, and standards—especially in the realm of consumer informational.
