Security Threats Arising from the Convergence of Biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence

Recent advancements in artificial intelligence and biotechnology have ushered in a new era of technological breakthroughs. While individual progress in these fields is significant, the convergence of these technologies holds even greater promise and peril. Beyond offering unprecedented opportunities to enhance global health and well-being, this convergence poses numerous inherent security threats. As the capabilities of biotechnology are amplified by AI, so too does the risk of its misuse. This applied research, employing a descriptive-analytical approach and exploratory methods including data mining and text mining, examines the convergence of biotechnology and artificial intelligence and its associated security threats. Our findings reveal that the convergence of these fields has created a complex and evolving security landscape characterized by four key dimensions: ۱) increased accessibility to technology; ۲) ease of technology use; ۳) heightened threat severity and potential impact; and ۴) reduced timeframes for malicious applications of technology. The imperative to understand and address the implications of these emerging technologies on the security environment is more pressing than ever.
