Synthesis of N-CNT-TiO۲ Nanocatalyst: Application in Direct Oxidation of H۲S to Sulfur

In this study, nitrogen-doped MWCNT-TiO۲ nanocatalyst (N-CNT-TiO۲) with ۱, ۳, and ۵ wt. % nitrogen has been synthesized and its catalytic activity in the oxidation of H۲S to sulfur has been studied at a temperature of ۲۰۰°C and O۲/H۲S mole ratio of ۰.۵ and compared with those of neat TiO۲ and TiO۲-CNT hybrid. Their structure, morphology, and chemical properties have been determined by N۲ adsorption-desorption isotherms, XRD, SEM, TEM, UV, and FT-IR. N-CNT-TiO۲ exhibited improved performance compared with TiO۲-CNT due to the presence of nitrogen groups. In addition, the nanocatalyst was comparable (up to ۵%) with TiO۲ because of the presence of a lower bandgap and synergistic effects. Furthermore, ۵%N-CNT-TiO۲ has shown the highest catalytic activity among N-CNT-TiO۲ nanocatalysts due to its higher surface area and pore volume.
