Mapping the Evolution and Impact of Information Science Research in the Middle East: A Comprehensive Bibliometric Study

This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis tracing the trajectory and impact of information science research in the Middle East from ۱۹۸۲ to ۲۰۲۵. Utilizing data from the Web of Science database, we applied advanced bibliometric techniques using R for data processing and visualization. The analysis examined publication trends, citation dynamics, collaboration patterns, thematic evolution, and the influence of international collaboration. Key findings reveal a robust expansion in research output and collaborative efforts within the region. Major thematic clusters identified include digital libraries, information retrieval, and knowledge management. We highlight influential scholars and institutions driving research in these areas, as well as top-cited works that have significantly shaped the field. Analysis of international collaboration shows increasing engagement with global partners, contributing to the region's integration into the global information science landscape. The study also identifies prominent journals publishing Middle Eastern research, underscoring their role in disseminating impactful scholarship. Visualizations created using VOS Viewer map co-authorship networks and thematic clusters across Middle Eastern countries. This research contributes a nuanced understanding of the transformative growth and global significance of information science scholarship in the Middle East. It offers essential insights for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the region's information ecosystem and future research directions.
